Nintendo Direct Report – 19/12/13: Don’t Pursue Ganon
December 19, 2013
With the year pretty much over, what better way for Nintendo to close out 2013 than one final Nintendo Direct. And compared to the last few we’ve seen, there were some very interesting announcements, and several that came right out of nowhere.
The major surprise game announcement came under the working title of Hyrule Warriors, a Wii U spin-off of the Legend of Zelda series, helmed by Koei-Tecmo. Effectively, it’s a Dynasty Warriors game that takes place in the world of the Legend of Zelda games. No real details were given, aside from a brief trailer that showed off some gameplay. The other game announcement was for NES Remix, a Wii U eShop exclusive game that sees you complete various challenges from a dozen NES games, ranging from attempting easy 1-UP tricks in Super Mario Bros, to weirder challenges such as completing Donkey Kong using Link from the original Legend of Zelda, completing Mario levels in reverse and much more. The game also happens to be out now, if you wish to give it a shot.
Sadly, the rest of the announcements weren’t as surprising. The upcoming Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS will have Princess Rosalina and Luma (from Super Mario Galaxy) as a playable character; the WiiU version of Sonic Lost World will be receiving a free Yoshi’s Island DLC level; a Luigi remixed version of Dr Mario, Dr Luigi, will hit in 2014 for the Wii U; Professor Layton X Ace Attorney will be hitting Europe in March of 2014, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze & Mario Kart 8 received new trailers.
