Final Fantasy XIV Trial Period Extended

Square Enix is providing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn players a seven-day extension to their current free play time. The recently relaunched MMO has faced a number of server congestion issues since launching last week, with many players (including several on NG+) unable to log in due to server capacity issues.

Players who have already registered accounts in Final Fantasy XIV will automatically have seven days added to their play time, while newcomers will still be able to register their codes up until 5:00pm September 10 (AEST) and still qualify for the extension.

“Since the beginning of official service on August 27, 2013, the number of users attempting to access the game has significantly exceeded our initial estimates,” the company said in an official post, “While we are pleased to see support for the game reach far beyond our expectations, the servers were not prepared to handle this influx of players. As a result, our servers have been pushed beyond maximum capacity”

Square Enix has already applied character creation restrictions and halted digital sales of the game in an attempt to alleviate the congested servers.

The company will be conducting server maintenance on September 4 between 10:00am and 8:00pm (AEST) to increase servers, increase the number of concurrent logins per server and reduce stress on the instanced Duty Finder servers.
