July 30, 2014
EA has announced EA Access, its new subscription service launching on Xbox One. For $5.99 per month (or $39.99 per year), EA Access subscribers will receive a number of benefits, including access to a library of games, a 10% discount on digitally purchased EA titles and the ability to download and play upcoming games five days before release.
The first set of of games available for immediate play, in what EA is calling The Vault, are: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4. More titles will be added in the future. EA has not mentioned whether titles in The Vault will rotate regularly, à la Playstation Plus or Xbox Games with Gold, or if the library will remain static, similar to Netflix.
Additionally, upcoming titles including Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, NBA Live 15 and Dragon Age: Inquisition will be available to EA Access subscribers five days before their respective release dates for a limited time. The nature of these trials will vary, with some games potentially allowing users to carry their progress over from launch day.
EA has not announced a release date for EA Access.
EA Access is not the company’s first subscription offering; the company offered similar benefits to EA Sports fans (excluding The Vault) with its EA Sports Season Pass.
