Developer Regrets Announcing Game On April 1
April 1, 2014
Catalytic Games lead Morgan Lee has expressed regret over the studio’s announcement of its upcoming game on April 1.
“We scheduled the announcement to go up at midnight,” Lee told New Game Plus, “Not fifteen minutes after it went out, our Twitter account started to get flooded with images of this shiba inu dog, and people talking about how awesome our ‘joke’ was. I then saw the date and realised the scale of our mistake.”
It has since been hailed by social media and blogs as one of the highlights of this year’s April Fools’ Day. “Kotaku, the Huffington Post and Buzzfeed are all writing articles about the 21 reasons why this is the best April Fools joke of the year. It actually surprised me.”
Lee attributed the timing error to a tight PR schedule. “We’re on a strict timeline between now and release. I had interviews lined up for the next three month. Now instead of talking about our project, all they’re going to ask about is whether we’ve seen that damned PewDiePie video about us.”
“I did, and I didn’t like it one bit.”
“We’ve poured our hearts and souls into this project for the past three years,” said Lee, “We all take this very seriously. To have everyone point and laugh at our work, it hurts me deeply. I didn’t want to see my team’s efforts turned into a comic sans riddled subreddit, let alone a fully-fledged Bitcoin ripoff.”
The studio still intends to proceed as planned. “Our programmers have worked tirelessly coding the dandelion physics. I’ve personally spent the past six months handcrafting our Ambiguity Grey© moral choice engine. I still believe in the potential in our game to provoke discussion, to move players and to literally save lives!”
Horse Midwifery Simulator, Catalytic Games’ debut title, is expected to be released in 2015.
