Amazon Acquires Double Helix Games

February 6, 2014

In their first big push to establish themselves as a games publisher, online retailer Amazon have announced they’ve acquired California-based developer Double Helix Games.

The news (via TechCrunch) comes as word of a joint recruiting event held by both Double Helix and Amazon was leaked out, which would’ve been where the announcement was to take place. While no financial details of the acquisition have been revealed, Amazon have confirmed they’ve acquired all the talent and IP that Double Helix has. With rumours of Amazon developing their own dedicated hardware abound, this seems like a strong first step in establishing a foothold into the gaming scene.

Double Helix’s most recently released game was the Xbox One launch title Killer Instinct, and are currently in the finishing stages of a new Strider game for Capcom.
