Published by Jamie Galea on June 20, 2012 Saints Row: Enter The Dominatrix Now A Sequel; Hits in 2013

One sorta surprising announcement from last month was for a disc based expansion for Saints Row: The Third, known as “Enter the Dominatrix”, which promised to bring some serious changes to the game and expand it beyond what the DLC added. But surprisingly, we didn’t hear anything from it at E3. It wasn’t shown, or if it was, no-one brought it up in the deluge of post-show updates. However, it seems the reasoning for its no show has been revealed via an interview with THQ president Jason Rubin: it’s not coming out. At least, as an expansion. Instead, it’ll be released in 2013, but it’s being expanded on to the point where it’s being considered a sequel. Not that he named it Saints Row Goes Fourth or anything.

The decision (via EDGE) is Rubin’s first major call as the newly appointed THQ President, citing that he was “blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise” and that by wondering just what Volition could do if they were given more time on the game: “We all agreed that we wanted to play that game”. Nothing else was confirmed about the game, but Rubin did reveal that there’ll be a multiplayer component to the game. Whether that’s co-op, or bringing back the competitive multiplayer from Saints Row 2, wasn’t clarified. And that’s it – we don’t know if it’ll expand on the tech and be a fully fledged Saints Row 4, or (and the more likely case anyway) an Assassins Creed Brotherhood/Revelations type sequel (i.e. Same tech, but expanding on mechanics & story).

For those who missed the initial announcement, here’s THQ’s summary of the game, which gives you a jumping off point as to what to expect (via the Saints Row Wiki).

For centuries, alien warlord Zinyak has eyed Earth and its precious natural resources and females with a watchful eye. As he prepares an armada for invasion, he has only one worry: the Third Street Saints. Once a simple street gang from Stilwater, the Saints have evolved into a global empire, replete with bombastic TV advertising and tasteful consumer products, the kind of TV advertising and consumer products that would give any alien warlord pause. Clearly, the Saints are the biggest badasses on Earth.

Now, in order to prepare his forces for domination, Zinyak captures the leader of the Saints and imprisons him in an elaborate virtual reality simulation. This simulation program looks and feels like Steelport, but it is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. Here, you are a slave. Welcome… to the Dominatrix.

Another game to look forward to in 2013. Oh boy.
