The live action movie adaptation of Ace Attorney was recently released on DVD in Australia and New Zealand and thanks to Madman we have five copies of the Takashi Miike directed movie on DVD to giveaway!

With major chiptune festival ‘Blip’ taking a break for the foreseeable future, chiptune fans can’t be blamed for having a slight hole in their hearts. Australian and Japanese fans, however, can rest easy with the announcement of ‘Square Sounds’, a new festival to carry forward Blip’s legacy.
This new celebration of all music chip related will begin its tour in Melbourne February 15th and 16th next year with a local and international line-up. “There are so many great chipmusic artists that have never performed in Australia before,” said Kristy Dossor, key organiser of Square Sounds (as well as the recurring Melbourne event ‘SoundBytes’), “Working with the Cheapbeats team from Tokyo and our experience with Blip will make Square Sounds something that those familiar with Blip Festival will love, while also incorporating some fresh ideas. We have some amazing talent lined up that will feature not just chipmusic, but also some other stylistically similar artists.”

It was only a matter of time before one of the major dancing games announced this particular acquisition but Ubisoft has beaten everyone else to the punch announcing on their Twitter (and further confirmed by uPlay Community Developer Mathieu Willem) that the latest Korean craze ‘Gangnam Style’ will be released on Just Dance 4 as a downloadable song.

Recently Nintendo held events at various EB Games stores throughout Australia. Those that rocked up to the event had the chance to not only try the new 3DSXL due for release August 23rd but also play the new Nintendo game due to be released on the 3DS systems this week, New Super Mario Bros 2. With naught to do that fine Saturday (one of the rare examples of good weather in Melbourne recently) I was in attendance and gave the game a fair bit of a whirl.
Hardcore anime fans, casual watchers and even non-anime viewers alike will have heard of the production company Studio Ghibli, one of the major companies to bring Japanese animated film all across the world. Thanks to Madman Entertainment we have FIVE packs of the latest Studio Ghibli releases on Blu-Ray — Howl’s Moving Castle, Arrietty and Tales from Earthsea — to give away!

Recently formed Australian distribution label Hanabee announced its first two anime acquisitions at the Sydney Manga and Anime Show (SMASH). Australia and New Zealand retail will be seeing the DVD releases of Toradora! Volume One (とらドラ!) and Dream Eater Merry (夢喰いメリー) on October 3rd.
Toradora! was originally released as a light novel in 2006 and has since become one of the larger series to be released in America. Dream Eater Merry is a half-season anime based on the ongoing manga created by Ushiki Yoshitaka. Continue reading »
